Care guide

Keep it for decades, not seasons

Handmade pieces are tougher than they look, but they like to be treated a certain way. Four short notes.

Ceramics
Dishwasher safe on a normal cycle. Avoid sudden heat shocks, so no oven straight from the fridge. Glaze crazing over years is normal and food safe.
Textiles
Cold hand wash or gentle machine cycle in a bag. Dry flat out of direct sun. Indigo pieces may release a little colour on the first wash, so wash them alone.
Wood
Never in the dishwasher and never left to soak. Wipe, dry, and rub in a little food grade mineral oil or beeswax once a month. A dull board is a thirsty board.
Baskets
Dust with a dry cloth. If an ilala basket loses its shape, mist it lightly with water and reshape by hand. Keep out of damp rooms.
